KILNS
Kilns, they are the heart of my work as a technician. Embedded in my creative process is a deep appreciation of the transformation that happens within. The art of firing, thermal mass and atmosphere, nurtures my work from beginning to end.
Letting go of expectations and detaching from the hours of time and fixation and obsession. I offer my work in sacrifice to the kiln. This is where art happens; the patterns I see in life married with the uncertainty, controlled chaos, and magic of the kiln. Firing gas kilns is like weaving material and time with my vision. With an informed hypothesis and twitchy ear, I add to the atmosphere: reduction, soda/salt, wood; envisioning these elements flowing, leaving paths of evidence where the flame danced in the kiln, interacting with oxides, becoming volatile, leaving traces of time and space on each piece. The process is my art; the finished pieces are evidence of my handprints frozen in time.
